My Experience

While working for a company called Aaxa Tech last year doing some marketing work I became very enthusiastic about evolving pico projector technology. The market is fantastic and ripe for an explosion on every level. Every new generation of product practically doubles in power and efficiency, while at the same time getting cheaper to buy. There are several types of small projectors I will focus on and your choice will depend on your individual needs. Handheld projectors are small, portable, and lightweight- They only weigh 1-2 pounds but are too big to fit in your jeans pocket. Pico projectors are around the size of cell phones, ultra portable, and small enough to carry in your pocket. "Micro" or "portable projectors" are slightly bigger than both Pico Projectors, but much more powerful. Portable projectors are still only a few pounds but aren't small enough to fit in your hand.

The Current Top of the Line Pico Projector

Right now there is a virtual tie for the "Top Dog" award for Pico Projectors between the Optoma PK301 and 3M Mpro 180. They are both high resolution, High Definition projectors, among the highest in Lumens (brightness), efficient, and made by highly reputable companies.

These are among the newest generation of Pico projectors which were released this year and have pushed mini projector technology to new heights. These 2 will stay near the top of the line for the next year or so, but if you want to stay at the top of the line you may want to wait until late this year before making a purchase. Aaxa technologies, a super small company based out of southern California, is well known for inventing new generations every few months and should out-match the Pk301 and Mpro 180 soon.

Handheld and Portable Projectors

Aaxa Technologies has proven to always be at the top of the Handheld projector market. If you remember my description above, handheld projectors can fit in the palm of your hand, but are too small to fit in your pants pocket.

Right now their M2 is the top of the line handheld option. It's power is far and above any other option. While external batteries are available as an add on option, normally these projectors are ran by plugging into an outlet. The sleek design of the M2 is also very eye catching and cool to take just about anywhere.

The second best option is the M1 Ultimate, also by Aaxa Tech. They have continued to release more powerful options of the M1 series every few months for the past couple years. Their new option, as always, is more powerful than the last. The M1 series is slightly smaller, less powerful, and more economical than the M2. It is the best selling handheld projector for business users due to it's combination of convenient size and brightness. Up until the M1 series was released, it was hard to find projectors of this size that were practical to use for business presentations. The photos at the top of the Hub demonstrate the real power of an M1. You can compare the size of it in the next picture compared to my checkbook.
